1. Infertility is not uncommon
This statement was right a few years back. Now, IVF is very common and you will find one among six couples who are having a baby using IVF. The major reason for IVF is infertility.
Around 5% of couples use IVF to have a baby with infertility. Among all the cases, 40% of infertility cases are due to women and 40% cases are due to men. The rest 20% are due to the combined result.
Along with infertility, there are many other reasons behind using IVF. People who have genetic diseases use IVF for conceiving as they want to pass the disease to their baby’s body. Single mothers also follow this way of having a baby.
Overall, IVF is not a new thing to people now. In fact, you will find around one child among 50 who is born using IVF.
2. IVF requires a lot of time and work
IVF is a time-consuming and labour intensive process. You have to visit multiple doctors and also multiple times. The total process is divided into some steps.
First, doctors will give you some medicines that will make your ovaries much stronger and stimulate the production of eggs. At this time, you may need to visit the doctor’s place every day for a checking up.
When the stimulation stage is completed, the doctors will remove the eggs from your ovaries and combine these with your partner’s sperm. After completing the egg retrieval, the eggs are placed on your ovaries again. All these things require some time and effort for sure.
3. There are several types of IVF available
Conventional IVF is not the only option here. This is true that conventional IVF is the most popular way and is vastly used all over the world. But there are also some alternative ways. These require fewer drugs.
Natural IVF is popular with the intensive with less stimulating drugs. It requires 3 to 4 days to have drugs. Mild IVF requires a bit more drugs than natural ones. You have to go through 5 to 9 days of medication in this process.
You can start your cycle treatment at any time of the month. You don’t need to wait for a new menstrual cycle to start the treatment. You can also make sperm and egg donations in these ways.

4. The price may be more than the cycle cost
IVF is definitely a costly process. But people forget about other costs along with the cycle cost. You are aware of the cost of treatment. It includes the cost of scans and egg collection, the cost of embryology and embryo transfer, etc.
But you may don’t know that you have to spend a huge amount apart from these. You have to go through different medical diagnosticate and medications.
You have to bear all these costs and also pay the HFEA fee. So, before deciding about IVF, you should know the total estimation for it from the clinic.
5. Age matters
Age actually matters in IVF. IVF is more effective in people of young ages. In fact, there is an age recommendation for IVF.
In the case of women, IVF is more effective at the age of 35 years. The age range is from 30 to 40 years. If you are more than 40 years, the chances of being successful are comparatively fewer. The egg-production capacity of your ovaries reduces with time and doctors can’t even do anything with it at a time.
The situation is the same for the men as well. This is true that men have more stamina than women and they face fewer problems in the IVF problem. But age can create problems for them as well. So, you should decide about using IVF as soon as possible.
6. Success rates can be misleading
Well, success rates can easily make you confused. When you make your mind regarding IVF, the first thing that you will look forward to is the success rate. This depends on the clinics and the way they count the success rate. Some clinics measure this rate by the positive IVF pregnancy tests and some are by clinical pregnancy and live birth.
Actually, you can’t judge a clinic by its success rate. Maybe they provide amazing service. But maybe their patients were old women who have low egg reserve capacity. Besides, some gynaecological problems can also affect the success rate. So, this is not a good idea to compare the success rate of different clinics.

If you are not too old and your ovaries are still capable of producing eggs, IVF will definitely work for you. But we are not sure that it will happen the first time. In fact, this is very rare to conceive after the first cycle of treatment. Statistics say that only 35% of patients are successful in the first cycle of treatment.
When you are deciding about IVF, you should be prepared to have a course of treatment. This is also mentally and financially. You should have a crystal-clear conception about the total costing of some couple of cycle treatments. Around 65% of patients get the result after getting 6th cycle treatment. So, it’s good to be prepared for any situation.
8. You may have the option of gender selection
This is actually amazing when you have the option of gender selection. You won’t get this opportunity in any random clinic. There are some clinics with high-quality technology. They give the chance of selecting the baby’s gender. You may need to pay some extra amount with the session cost to have this opportunity.
There are lots of parents who have two or three baby boys and now they want a girl and vice versa. This process can make their wishes come true. But is not 100% assured that it will work.
There are so many gender selection cases where they failed. So, you just can wish. IVF isn’t fully effective in your baby’s gender selection.
9. IVF mix-ups are rare
Some people are actually worried about this issue. They think that there is a high possibility that mixing up the samples in the laboratory is very easy. If something like that happens, this will be very hard to trust in the IVF process. But luckily, this doesn’t happen.
Well, the samples they preserve in the laboratory are well-noted and marked to make them specific for individuals.
When you are giving your eggs, doctors will add these with your partner’s sperm that they kept with a specific label. We don’t say that the mix-up rate is 0%. But that is very rare and is not a regular issue. So, don’t be confused.

As we said before, IVF can’t assume pregnancy by any means. You may go to a renowned doctor and have cycle treatment in the right way. This may not work for you. Maybe you are too old, or maybe the egg-producing capacity of your ovaries is reduced.
There are so many reasons for the IVF process to fail. In fact, there is no assurance that you will get pregnant this way. There is just a possibility and you have to avail it. So, you should be mentally prepared for the result because a negative result can break your heart.
Bottom Line
